Summary of Functions: The DevOps Engineer II is a mid-level technical professional responsible for designing, implementing, automating, and supporting enterprise DevOps practices, platforms, and delivery processes. This position provides hands-on expertise across continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD), infrastructure automation, cloud platforms, configuration management, containerization, monitoring, and operational tooling.

The DevOps Engineer II independently manages technical assignments, improves software delivery and infrastructure operations, supports cloud and platform engineering initiatives, and partners with development, infrastructure, security, and operations teams to deliver secure, reliable, and scalable technology solutions.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership

  • Contributes to DevOps strategy, automation initiatives, and platform improvements by implementing engineering solutions that improve software delivery, infrastructure operations, and technology agility. Evaluates emerging DevOps technologies and practices, provides technical recommendations, supports modernization initiatives, and contributes to the development of engineering standards and operational approaches that align with organizational objectives.

Operational Excellence

  • Designs, implements, maintains, and supports enterprise DevOps platforms, CI/CD pipelines, automation frameworks, cloud services, and operational tooling. Develops deployment workflows, automates infrastructure and application delivery processes, supports configuration management, troubleshoots complex technical issues, and ensures DevOps platforms meet requirements for reliability, security, performance, and operational efficiency.

Architecture and Design

  • Participates in the design and implementation of DevOps architectures, automation frameworks, and platform engineering solutions. Applies established patterns for CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure-as-code, container platforms, cloud automation, and deployment processes. Provides technical input into solution designs, evaluates implementation options, and ensures solutions align with enterprise architecture, security standards, and operational requirements.

Quality and Continuous Improvement

  • Improves DevOps practices through automation, standardization, monitoring, observability, and process optimization. Develops and maintains technical documentation, automation scripts, deployment standards, and operational procedures. Participates in root cause analysis, performance improvements, security enhancements, and continuous improvement initiatives that increase delivery reliability, efficiency, and operational maturity.

Team Development and Management:

  • Provides technical guidance, mentoring, and knowledge sharing to junior engineers and technical teams without direct personnel management responsibilities. Promotes DevOps best practices, supports technical skill development, contributes to documentation and knowledge management, and assists team members with troubleshooting, engineering approaches, and adoption of automation practices.

Stakeholder Engagement and Collaboration

  • Collaborates with Software Development, Cloud Engineering, Systems Engineering, Network Engineering, Cybersecurity, Enterprise Services, Database, Service Desk, vendors, and business stakeholders to implement and support DevOps solutions. Communicates technical recommendations, implementation impacts, risks, and operational considerations. Participates in project planning, architecture discussions, Agile delivery activities, and cross-functional initiatives to improve technology delivery outcomes.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education, Experience and Training:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related field; or an Associate degree with four (4) years of relevant DevOps engineering, software development, systems administration, cloud engineering, or infrastructure automation experience; or an equivalent combination of education, technical training, certifications, and related experience.

Four (4) to six (6) years of experience supporting enterprise DevOps environments, software delivery processes, cloud platforms, infrastructure automation, or related technology operations is required. Demonstrated experience implementing CI/CD pipelines, automation solutions, infrastructure-as-code practices, deployment processes, and DevOps tooling is preferred. Experience supporting enterprise cloud platforms, container technologies, and DevSecOps practices is strongly preferred.

Special Requirements/Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Knowledge of DevOps methodologies and engineering practices; continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipelines; source control management; scripting and automation languages; Infrastructure-as-Code concepts and tools; cloud platforms including Microsoft Azure and/or AWS; containerization and orchestration technologies; configuration management; application deployment processes; monitoring and observability solutions; DevSecOps principles; Agile development practices; IT service management processes; cybersecurity concepts; and the integration of development, infrastructure, cloud, and security operations.

Ability to design, implement, and support DevOps solutions; develop and maintain automation workflows; troubleshoot complex technical issues; improve deployment processes; implement engineering standards and best practices; support cloud-native and hybrid environments; evaluate and recommend technical solutions; create technical documentation; collaborate effectively across technology teams; mentor junior staff; manage competing priorities; and apply strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
