Summary of Functions: The Senior Solution Architect is responsible for defining and implementing enterprise architecture frameworks that align technology solutions with Dallas County’s strategic IT objectives. This role provides technical leadership in designing, integrating, and optimizing applications, infrastructure, cloud environments, databases, and security systems. The Senior Solution Architect ensures that IT investments support business goals while maintaining security, scalability, and operational efficiency.?

Duties and Responsibilities:

Service Delivery Excellence

  • Lead the design and deployment of large-scale, high-impact IT solutions.?

  • Ensure enterprise solutions are secure, scalable, and meet business objectives.?

  • Provide technical leadership to development, engineering, and operations teams.?

  • Evaluate and optimize system performance, availability, and integration.?

  • Drive the adoption of cloud-based and hybrid architectures

  • Oversee enterprise system integrations, APIs, and middleware solutions.?

  • Develop strategies to enhance data security, quality, and governance.?

  • Ensure efficient data flow between applications, databases, and analytics platforms.?

  • Optimize data warehousing and business intelligence architectures.?

  • Standardize integration methodologies across IT divisions.?

  • Support cybersecurity initiatives by embedding security controls in architectural designs.?

  • Work closely with data engineering teams to enable advanced analytics capabilities.?

  • Evaluate and enhance cloud-based storage and computing solutions.

Operational Excellence

  • Establish best practices for solution development, integration, and deployment.?

  • Ensure compliance with enterprise architecture standards, cybersecurity policies, and governance frameworks.?

  • Collaborate with IT operations teams to enhance monitoring, automation, and resilience.?

  • Oversee technology selection, proof-of-concept implementations, and vendor evaluations.?

  • Contribute to cost optimization and efficiency improvements in IT service delivery.

  • Ensure compliance with enterprise architecture standards and IT security policies.

  • Document solution architectures, system designs, and integration patterns.

  • Participate in system troubleshooting and performance tuning efforts.

  • Assist in vendor evaluations and recommend third-party technology solutions.

  • Work with IT teams to standardize deployment and infrastructure automation.

  • Develop architectural blueprints, roadmaps, and technical documentation.?

  • Optimize IT system performance, security, and scalability.?

  • Design integration strategies for applications, cloud platforms, and data systems.?

  • Evaluate and recommend new technologies that align with county goals.?

  • Ensure IT solutions are compliant with cybersecurity best practices.

  • Ensure IT solutions are cost-effective and align with budgetary goals.?

  • Perform capacity planning to support IT growth and scalability.

  • Ensure compliance with industry regulations, including NIST, SOC 2, and HIPAA.?

Solution Architecture and Design

  • Develop and implement enterprise-wide IT architecture standards and best practices.?

  • Design scalable, secure, and resilient IT solutions across applications, infrastructure, cloud, databases, and security.?

  • Establish technology roadmaps that align with Dallas County’s digital transformation objectives.?

  • Lead the architecture and design of mission-critical systems and integrations.?

  • Ensure IT solutions meet compliance, security, and regulatory requirements.?

  • Collaborate with IT leadership to align technology strategies with County business goals.?

  • Define system interoperability strategies and enterprise data models.?

  • Document architectural decisions, frameworks, and key system dependencies.

  • Design security-first architectures that align with Dallas County’s risk management policies.?

  • Develop architecture patterns that enforce data encryption and secure authentication.?

  • Develop technical roadmaps, solution blueprints, and system design documentation.?

  • Ensure architectural consistency and standardization across IT solutions.?

  • Lead technical discussions and decision-making for key IT projects.?

  • Collaborate with business analysts to align technical solutions with County objectives.

Quality and Continuous Improvement:

  • Identify and recommend improvements in system design and performance.

  • Conduct post-implementation reviews to refine best practices.

  • Implement monitoring and logging best practices to enhance visibility into IT systems.

  • Maintain architecture standards and ensure proper documentation

  • Optimize cloud resource utilization and on-premises infrastructure efficiency.?

  • Work with DevOps teams to streamline IT operations and deployments.?

  • Stay updated on emerging technologies, frameworks, and industry trends.?

  • Conduct proof-of-concept (PoC) evaluations for new technologies.?

  • Recommend innovative solutions to improve IT service delivery.?

  • Work with vendors and technology partners to explore new IT opportunities.?

  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives in solution architecture and IT processes.?

  • Establish KPIs and metrics to evaluate solution effectiveness and stability.?

  • Promote automation, self-healing capabilities, and proactive system monitoring.?

  • Participate in IT risk assessments and compliance reviews.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education, Experience and Training:

  • · Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field or equivalent experience.
  • · 7+ years of IT experience, with at least 3 years in a solution architecture or senior technical role.
  • · Expertise in enterprise IT architecture, cloud computing, and infrastructure design.
  • · Strong background in DevOps, automation, API integration, and security best practices.
  • · Experience working with hybrid cloud environments (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).

Certifications (Preferred):

  • · AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Microsoft Azure Architect, or Google Cloud Architect.
  • · TOGAF or other enterprise architecture certifications.
  • · ITIL Intermediate or Advanced Certification.

  • Deep technical expertise in solution design, security, and scalability. ·

  • Ability to document architectural decisions and develop technical roadmaps.
  • Understanding of emerging technologies such as AI, automation, and blockchain.
